Al Ikhlas Taariq Al khalaas 3

Ustadha Eman started praising Allah (swt) and sending dua for the students .
Let’s start with a question : what Is the difference between Eman and Ikhlas ?
Eman is the cause that gives the result which is so Ikhlas .
Eman is the saying of the heart while Al Ikhlas is the action of the heart .
Based of what your heart say then your heart will act upon it .

Sheikh Ibn Al Uthaimen(Rahimaullah) said : Al Ikhlas for Allah (swt) is to Draw oneself to allaah and reach paradise .In your heart you need to free yourself from the wanting of Allah (swt) .

The slave need to be sincere in Allah (swt) in his goal
Be sincere in his love (مخلصا الله في محبته) need to love Allah (swt) alone
Need to magnify Allah (swt) alone(مخلصا الله في تعظيمه )
Be sincere in our outside and inside
If not just having it but it’s all in our life , but living by Ikhlas inside and outside . All my inner and outer action are sincere and free form wanting of people
Let’s continue with Al Ikhlas in seeking knowledge !
How will into all Ikhlas in seeking knowledge ??
First you clear all your heart and yourself from the wanting of people then :

Seeking knowledge while Desiring the Face of Allah and know His legislation and rules (اطلب العلم لتبليغ به وجه الله و تعرف احكامه و فرائضه) :  For the Munafiqoon when they go pray they go with laziness , you don’t study with Biden but with love , seeking the Face of Allah (swt) . It’s like a tool, a weapon that push you to see Allah (swt) and know His legislation and rules .you need to work , it’s action of the heart . After you know then

Act upon this knowledge and teach others (تعمل به و تعلم غيرك) then this is
How you establish the religion of Allah (فتنشر دينة) . You will spread the religion of Allah (swt) .
Then you will be a soldier of Allah (swt) and what an honor to be a soldier of Allah (swt)

The knowledge is worship , if you acquire the knowledge with purity , for Allah (swt) and to be soldier of Allaah then it will be Acceptable .
Purify and it will grow and this knowledge has a baraka
The knowledge has first impact on the person then on his surrounding , to his family and  life will be blessed and will be blessed wherever he will be . Because he seek the knowledge with Al Ikhlas . You find some people accruing knowledge just for themselves and it will have no baraka . It’s a worship so you must have Al ikhlas .

Either you will have the blessing or it will nullify they deeds .
Abu Hurairah (ra):
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:The Messenger of Allah(ﷺ) said, “He who does not acquire knowledge with the sole intention of seeking the Pleasure of Allah but for worldly gain, will not smell the fragrance of Jannah on the Day of Resurrection.”

The one who acquire the knowledge seeking the face of Allah except to have the Dunya he will not smell paradise .
Religious knowledge which should be for Face of Allah (swt) , but this person seek it for the Dunya , position ,praise , feeling good about then he will not have paradise  .That’s why Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) said to the sahabah (ra) : if you pass to any garden of paradise you sit , then the Sahaba (ra) asked where is this garden? Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) said : the study circle .

Why ? Because you are feeding the heart with the good heart .
There is a difference in the attitude with two people , both acquiring the knowledge ,one learn, he doesn’t complain and the learning is so enjoying, so he is happy even his there is disturbance . The other one acquiring but he complaining about the teacher , the place , you can see the difference . You can see those who do for Allah (swt) or no . Your Ikhlas over come everything . You will live in paradise .

The gathering of remembrance of Allah (swt) is the one which make you:
Know Allah (swt) (معرفة الله)
Love Him (محبته)
Feeling familiar ,happy content (الانس به)
His Obedience (وطاعته)
And longing to meet him (الشوق للقائه)
You get all this from beneficial knowledge
Anyone who enter the paradise of the Dunya will enter the paradise of the hereafter
That’s why seeker of knowledge should have Al Ikhlas . May الله grant us Al Ikhlas .

That’s why the worst Person in the Day of Judgement is the one His knowledge didn’t benefit him, he has no Al Ikhlas .
How it benefit you ? With Al Ikhlas .
Don’t think about the result: certificate , people , praise
For instance ,Think now we are learning ,don’t think what You will do with this knowledge after an hour . Think every single moment with Al Ikhlas . Don’t worry about later , worry about now . Sometimes you learn something and with al Ikhlas you will see an immediate effect on you .
If you acquire knowledge it will take you high
Without Al Ikhlas (بدون اخلاص )
And without Al Ikhlas it will take you down
That’s why Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) said the one who will enter hellfire before the disbelievers , will be the one who learn knowledge to be known .  We need then to make the study circle without wordily benefit . No certificate, no name without anything . It’s very scary !!! Human being when he gets tangible then look at how he will be except by the mercy of Allah (swt) . You want to be high in the sight of Allah (swt) . Only Allah knows if you are being elevated or no .
Note: you just come to learn for the sake of Allah (swt) . Not anyone .

Sheikh Al Uthaimen (Rahimaullah) said : to student and teacher to make their bases of the matter which you will build on it your movement and silence , complete sincerity and get closer to Allah (swt) . Meaning before you make a movement or silence should be for Allah (swt) .
Sometimes people used the knowledge to defend themselves , or attack the people . You need to be very careful . The based of all your utterance should be Al Ikhlas .

Al Ikhlas in all your affairs(اخلاص في كل الأمور  ):
In studying (درسوا)
In teaching (دارسوا)
In Writing (كتبوا)
In memorizing (حفظوا)
In Listening (استمعوا)
In Repeating (كرروا)
In Revising (راجعوا)
In Searching (بحثوا)
You need to do all for the Face of Allah (swt) .

The scholar Abu Zayed (Rahimallah ) said :When there is no Al Ikhlas it will leads to the best of obedience to the lowest of the sins .
The knowledge with Al Ikhlas will take you high but knowledge without Al Ikhlas it will take you too down , worst than anybody else .it is th best of the worship . And knowledge with no Al Ikhlas is the worst of the sins .

And from the things that will destroy the knowledge is
ArRiyah (الرياء) doing in front of people to impress them
For your preparation (التسميع): looking for a good reputation , people heard and see you good . But this is not what we must want .This is why Al Ikhlas is the way of the salvation . All this wanting for people is so much stress , and you won’t be able to do it for Al Ikhlas .
Sheikh AsSaadi(Rahimallah) didn’t think about his reputation , or even his student leaving him … And allah granted him good reputation .

The riyah and the seeking of good reputation will spoils the knowledge we ask Allah (swt) the good reputation after we die . Because being alive now there is so much desires from people. We shouldn’t praise people for the knowledge to avoid affecting the knowledge .

Little knowledge with Al Ikhlas is more beneficial and blessed than so much knowledge without Al Ikhlas .

Al Ikhlas is the way of salvation free from destruction .

We ask Allah (swt) to make us amongst the sincere one .
Home work for tomorrow ان شاء الله : look from the Quran who from the Messengers Allah (swt) call them as Al Mukhlassen (the  sincere one )

Day 2 : Sincerity is the way of Salvation (الاجلاص طريق الخلاص ) by Ustadha Eman Al Obaid (HafidhaAllah)

Day 2 : Sincerity is the way of salvation

Al Ikhlaas Tariq Al Khalaas day 2
Ustadha Eman started praising Allah (swt) and sending dua for the students .
Introduction:  yesterday we talked about how Ikhlaas saves people.

Al ikhlas :
It is a command from Allah (swt)( امرنا الله بالإخلاص )
And Allah (swt) created us to worship Him but the command is Al Ikhlaas which need us to work hard.
That show Al Ikhlas is something very honorable and great (الاخلاص عزيز وعظيم)and that is the reason Allaah command us .
Everything you will get in this Dunya and Akhira is with Al Ikhlaas . All problem can be solved only with Al Ikhlaas .
It’s an action of the heart and the head of all actions .
Al Ikhlaas is an adornment of the heart .
Al Ikhlaas is the secret of Al Uboodiyah . And the souls of the idabah . Without Al Ikhlas it will be like a dead body .

It’s the light of the heart (الاخلاص نور في القلب) : that leads you to Ihsaan and to the success . When you try to purify all your deeds and this light give you perfection and run you will do the deeds perfectly . You are working on the quality in the deeds . The secret of the deeds and success in with Ikhlaas , that is why the success in the sight of Allah (swt) , and this is between you and Allah (swt) .

There is an hadith of Prophet Muhammad(ﷺ) : Abu Dardaa(ra) said:
“I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) saying: ‘This world is cursed and what is in it is cursed, except seeking for the Face of Allah.
If you do any deeds without Al Ikhlas it will be cursed and it will be destruction . You do not want to be cursed so have Al Ikhlaas , only if you see pk thr Face of Allah (swt) ,you will get a mercy . Even taking care of yourself . You can do it by desires , but you want the success and blessings ,so you do it for the Face of Allah (swt) , because Allah (swt) love it if you do for His sake .

Ibn Qayyum said : this is special blessing . Either you speak or no you will get the blessing .

Ibn Qaayum also said : any deeds without Al Ikhlaas and an example is like a traveller filling his luggage with sand . We always want to travel very light . But there is difference while traveling clothes or with sand which is very heavy . When you do a deeds without Al Ikhlas it just make you tired and there is no benefit . And what we are doing is Talaluf , burden , no Ikhlas for your oneself or people .We are learning it to upgrade ourselves . We want quality deeds .

He also said : deeds without sincerity is like a building above the waves . Anything will break it . Example your friendship is for yourself or Dunya .you are not having a friendship based on Dunya , you will see any test will happen it will shake and it won’t be stable . Do it for Allah (swt) and it will last till paradise and you will enjoy it . Anything you will do with Ikhlaas ,because you want to be close to Allah (swt) ,then it will be a stable relationship .if you don’t do for Allah (swt) it will not be stable .it will be like Dunya , something that come and go .thats why Allah (swt) says I’m Surah.   ArRahman , everything eill pursing except the Face of Allah (swt) . If you see any shaking then ask yourself if you are doing it for Allah (swt) .

How to have Al Ikhlas ???
We are following the book Al Ikhlaas Tariq Al khalaas , and the author chosed the main important things where you need Al Ikhlas , he started with Al Ikhlaas in the seeking of knowledge .
Why he started with this ? Because it’s very dangerous if in seeking knowledge there is no Ikhlas . If in seeking knowledge there is no Ikhlas it can be a destruction.

Free yourself from from anything which can effect the knowledge(خلص نفسك من كل ما يشوب العلم )
From the desire of yourself : from all what the Nafs wants (إرادات النفس)
Love if being apparent ( حب الظهور) for people to see you
Wanting to be above than people (التفق علي الأقران) either your husband or anyone .
Seeking praise (طلب محددة) either you get the praise or no , you do the deeds because you seek the praise
Direct the face of people to you (صرف وجوه الناس إليك) you want people to look at you , to see what you are doing , it’s a destruction . It can destroy the knowledge . Knowledge is weapon to go to paradise . If you don’t have Ikhlas it will be rocket that will explode .
People respect (تعظيم الناس) you look for the respect , we need to check our hearts ,. It’s better to stop learning . And if you leave it it won’t be also for Allah (swt) . This is how you do struggling for Allah (swt) . The real jihad is about Al Ikhlas .
To get some position and benefit (تحصيل الرياسة و الجاهل المال) you nee to relive yourself form it ,position ,worldly things .
Imagine you look for all this the knowledge will not last . Seeing knowledge is a bridge to go paradise , it will make easy your way to paradise . Anything with Al Ikhlas will continue and without it will be discontinued .

Ikhlaas when seeking knowledge
Your focus should be for the Face of Allah (swt) , and it will be completed till you die and you will see it in the Day of Judgement .you will get the light and you will have sweetness of the faith
For the seeker of knowledge they are enjoying , they will not find it difficult . But without Ikhlas ,by doing for the teacher , my friend and people ..
And you will be close to Allah (swt)

May Allah (swt) help us to overcome our weakness . Amen

Day 1 : Sincerity is the way of Salvation (الاجلاص طريق الخلاص ) by Ustadha Eman Al Obaid (HafidhaAllah)

Sincerity is the way of salvation

Al Ikhlaas Tariq Al Khalaas day 1
Ustadha Eman started praising Allah (swt) and sending dua for the students .

The sincerity is the way of salvation , if you want the way of freedom and salvation there is no other way than Ikhlaas . It is something very important .
Let’s see Al Ikhlaas through the QURAN:
Surah Yunus:22
He it is Who makes you travel by land and sea; until when you are in the ships, and they sail on with them in a pleasant breeze, and they rejoice, a violent wind overtakes them and the billows surge in on them from all sides, and they become certain that they are encompassed about, they pray to Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience: If Thou dost deliver us from this, we will most certainly be of the grateful ones .
Allah (swt) subjected to you the travel by land and sea , and while you are on travel in distraction ,it comes a violent wind . They call Allah (swt) with sincerity , you can see here the key , in place of calamities they call on Allah (swt) . You can really see Ikhlaas Taariq Al khalaas .

Surah Al Ankaaboot :65
So when they ride in the ships they call upon Allah, being sincerely obedient to Him, but when He brings them safe to the land, lo! they associate others (with Him);

They called Allah (swt) with sincerity while in trouble but as soon as Allah (swt) saved them they associate with Allah (swt) another partner .
Surah Luqmaan :32
And when a wave like mountains covers them they call upon Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, but when He brings them safe to the land, some of them follow the middle course; and none denies Our signs but every perfidious, ungrateful one.

When  the waves will be surrounding them like a shade then they called Allah (swt) with sincerity ,and Allah (swt) saved them to the land ,then you will find two groups of people after being saved . One is modest and the other are deniers who do appreciate Allah (swt) .

Meaning of Al Ikhlaas ( تعريف الإخلاص)
To purify form the Impurify (التخليص من الشوائب) : the impurity of the heart , removing the dirt because The impurity can affect the heart .
Which impurity can affect the heart
Meaning of Al Ikhlas in the religion

What is wanting of yourself ?

Wanting for yourself : need to free yourself from the wanting of yourself . This wanting of yourself will spoil your heart and deeds . What is wanting of yourself ? Spoiler of the deeds !

  1. Seeking the beautification in the heart of the people (طلب التزيين في قلوب الخلق ) : When people think about you beautiful then it’s normal but when you are wanting then it will spoil the Ikhlaas . You desire pie ole think of you beautiful . If you are seeking this desire then you will be trapped . Ikhlaas is the way of salvation and the opposite is way of destruction as this is shirk !
  2. Seeking people praise (طلب مدح الخلق ) : you are wanting and waiting for people to praise you . You have the desire for people to praise you . You are seeking the praise from somebody rather than Allah (swt) . But when you are seeking the praise from Allah (swt) this is the way of freedom and salvation . You are not chained because of your wanting of people . When you are free you are so happy as nothing can stop you . You need to purify your deeds and heart from wanting of the praise .
  3. Escaping from libeling (الهرب  ذمهم) : escaping from people dispraising ,you are doing some action because you are afraid of pierce tongue, comment and negativity   . You need the heart to be pure , how you want people to think about you . This is actually the way of the Munafiqeen , because they are afraid of their reputation , scared from the people .
  4. Desiring and wanting people respect and honor (طلب تعظيمهم): you do some actions because you are looking for people respect . So do not seek anything from people . Do not have attachment . If it comes before you ask then this is a favor from Allah (swt) but if you seeking it then it is a destruction . Your eyes being constantly on people eyes and you are never happy .
  5. Seeking a material reward ( طلب اموالهم) : a tangible reward from people . With Al Ikhlaas you will be This is a way to be free .

Al Ikhlaas  is free your eyes(insight) from seeing anyone except Allah (swt) (الاخلاص هو تخليص نظرك ذلك العمل عن رؤية شوى الله ) : Imagine your eyes looking at anybody rather than Allah (swt) . You want to have that relieve and freedom from looking at anybody except allaah . Because as soon and your heart will turn to people then young will have the wanting of yourself . Look for one to one relation with your lord .. You want to have that relieve and freedom . You should only look form praise and dispraised and appreciation and love only from Allah (swt) . And what will make your deed perfect is Ihsaan ,
To be sincere for Allah (swt) in all your deeds ,utterance, desires and all your intention (ان يخلص الله في افعال و أقوال واراداته و نيته ) : In all your actions you are very sincere , imagine Al Ikhlaas in all your actions, all steps ,all what you speak , all your desires will be for Allah (swt) and all your intentions for Allah (swt) .    This is actually :
Al Haneefiyah ( هذه هي الحنيفية) : My prayer, my sacrifice , my life , my death belongs to Allah (swt) , everything you do is sincere for Allah (swt) . You do its for Allah (swt) , you visit it’s sincere for Allah (swt) and you don’t visit it’s also sincere for Allah (swt) , you give sincere for Allah (swt) and you withhold also sincere for Allah (swt) .  It’s not only you do and it is for Allah (swt) but also when you do not do its should also be for Allah (swt) . Either you speak or no it should be for Allah (swt) . For instance you do not speak so people think good of you ? No it should also be for Allaah . You should and shouldn’t for Allah (swt) .
Let’s see in the Quran the evidence of having Al Ikhlaas  :

Surah Addhariyaat : 56
And I have not created the jinn and the men except that they should serve Me.
Allah (swt) created you as a Human to worship him ,
Surah Al Bayyinah : 5
And they were not enjoined anything except that they should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience, upright, and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, and that is the right religion.
Initially Allah (swt) created you to worship him and Allah (swt) command you for Al Ikhlaas . The command is not Ibadah but the command is Al Ikhlaas …then later comes establishing the prayer . Without Al Ikhlaas how can establish my praying ? The comes Zakkaat and this is the right religion .

Surah Az Zumar : 2
Surely We have revealed to you the Book with the truth, therefore serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience.
Allah (swt) sent the Quran with truth and what is inside this book is true. So be sincere . Islam is a way of life everything you do should be sincere . Allah (swt) mentioned about the Quran and Ikhlaas . As you can’t be sincere without the Quran . The more you will go through the Quran , the more interaction you have with the Quran , the more you will be pure , obviously your eyes will look at Allah (swt) alone .
Imagine the children has mother who always speak with them . The father speaks less . Automatically the eyes of the children will speak to the mother . The more the child will be expose to her . And to الله belongs the best example . Imagine you expose to allaah speech and you interact with His speech , your heart will only look at Allah (swt) .

Surah Az Zumar : 3
Now, surely, sincere obedience is due to Allah (alone) and (as for) those who take guardians besides Him, (saying), We do not serve them save that they may make us nearer to Allah, surely Allah will judge between them in that in which they differ; surely Allah does not guide him aright who is a liar, ungrateful.
Belong to Allah (swt) the pure religion , Allah (swt) want you to be pure and sincere . The main and the head is Allah (swt) . If you want sincerity in relationship in your life so don’t think of being sincere for your husband a so but just be sincere for Allah (swt) . And this is the way of salvation and you will not be chained .

Surah AzZumar : 11
Say: I am commanded that I should serve Allah, being sincere to Him in obedience
Do everything for Allah (swt) , cook , talk and do all deeds for Allah (swt) . We are not happy because we are slave to people .

Surah AzZumar :14
Say: Allah (it is Whom) I serve, being sincere to Him in my obedience
When you have Ikhlaas in Ibadah you are being sincere , and remove it from any wanting of yourself . And this is Al Ikhlaas is the way of salvation .
We ask Allaah to make us among the people of sincerity

Celebrating Mother’s Day is Haram

Every year we have a holiday on a particular day and it is called Mother’s Day. It occurs on March 21. All the people gather and celebrate on that day. Is this permissible or forbidden?

Every holiday or celebration that differs from Shariah celebrations is a newly invented innovation that was not known during the time of the Pious Predecessors. Furthermore, it may have begun as an imitation of the Non-Muslims. Therefore, in addition to it being an innovation, it may be an act of resembling the enemies of Allah. The Shariah holidays are well known among the Muslims. These are the Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and the weekly Eid [Fridays]. There is no holiday or festival in Islaam other than those three. Every holiday that is invented besides them is to be rejected as an innovation and falsehood in the Shariah . This is because the Prophet (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) said,

” Every deed introduced into our affair that does not belong to it is rejected .” [1]

That is, it is rejected from that person and it will not be accepted by Allah. Another wording of the hadeeth states,

”Whoever does a deed that is not what our affair is upon, will have it rejected .” [2]

Since that is clear, the holiday that is mentioned by the questioner, known as Mother’s day, is not allowed. It is not allowed to have during such day any kind of public display and celebration, happiness, giving of presents and so forth.

It is obligatory upon a Muslim to have pride in his religion. He should also limit himself to what Allah and his Messenger (sallallaahu ‘alaihi-wasallam) have restricted this upright religion to. This is the religion Allah is pleased to have His servants follow. There can be no addition and no subtraction from this. Furthermore, a Muslim should not be a kind of weak person that follows every Tom, Dick and Harry. Instead, his personality should be that defined by the Law of Allah, such that he is followed and not a follower, such that he becomes an example and not a disciple. This should be the case because the Law of Allah, Praise be to Allah, is complete and perfect in all aspects. Allah says in he Qur’an,

” This day I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favour upon you and have chosen for you islaam as your religion .” al-Maidah :3

Furthermore, the mother has much more right than to have just one day in the year as a celebration for her. In fact, the women has a right upon her children, that they will care for her, look after her, obey her in anything which is not sinful, during all times and at all places.

A Prophetic [Practice] that has been Abandoned, for Supplications to Be Answered

A Prophetic [Practice] that has been Abandoned, for Supplications to Be Answered

Shaykh Fawāz al-Madkhalī, may Allāh protect him, said:

A Point of Benefit : A Prophetic [Practice] That Has Been Abandoned, [One] for Supplications to Be Answered

From Anas ibn Mālik, may Allāh be pleased with him, [who] said:

Um Sulaym came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, “O Messenger of Allāh, teach me some words I can ask [Allāh] with.”

He said:

Proclaim Allāh’s great distance, Mighty is He and Majestic, from any kind of imperfection [by saying “subhānallāh”] ten times; glorify Him with praise [by saying “al-hamdulillāh”] ten times; and extol His greatness above all things [by saying “Allāhu akbar”] ten times.

Then after that, ask for what you need, for He [will] certainly then say: “Indeed, I have done it; indeed, I have done it.”

Ahmad, Al-Tirmidhī, and Al-Nasā’ī reported it with their chains of narration, and Al-Albānī graded it hasan [a good, acceptable narration].

Why is My Supplication Not Answered? Shaykh Ibn Uthaymeen

By the Noble Scholar, Shaykh Muhammad Ibn Saalih al-’Uthaymeen [1] Majmoo’ul-Fataawaa war-Rasaa‘il (no. 155)
Al-Istiqaamah Magazine, Issue No.3 – Rabî’ul-Awwal 1417H / August 1996.

[Q]: ‘Allaah says: ‘‘And your Lord says: Call upon Me and I will, respond to your supplication.’’ [Soorah Ghaafir 40:60] So why is it that a person’s du’aa (supplication) is sometimes unanswered?’

[A]: ‘‘All praise is due to Allaah, Lord of the worlds. May the Prayers and Peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his Family and his Companions. I ask Allaah for the ability to be correct in belief, speech and actions, for myself and for my brothers.

Allaah says:

‘‘And your Lord says: Call upon Me and I will respond to your supplication. Verily those who are too arrogant to worship Me will, enter Hell in humiliation.’’ [Soorah Ghaafir 40:60]

The questioner stated that he did indeed make du’aa (supplication) to Allaah – the Mighty and Majestic – but it was not answered by Allaah. So he is in doubt with respect to this noble aayah (verse), in which Allaah promises to answer the one who supplicates to Him, and indeed Allaah – the Most Perfect – never breaks His promise.

So the clarification of this is that there are certain conditions that need to be fulfilled in order for a supplication to be answered. These conditions are:

Firstly: Sincerity to Allaah – the Mighty and Majestic. That is to say, one must be sincere in his du’aa (supplication), so he turns to Allaah – the One free from all imperfections with an attentive heart, being truthful in his turning to Him, knowing that Allaah – the Most Perfect, the Most High – is capable of answering his du’aa (supplication) and hoping that the du’aa will be answered.

Secondly: During du’aa, the caller should feel that he is in need of Allaah – the Most Perfect, the Most High – in fact in dire need; and that only Allaah alone answers the supplication of the one in distress and the One who removes evil.

Thirdly: That the one making du’aa should refrain from haraam (unlawful) matters, as this acts as a barrier between the person and his du’aa (supplication) being answered – as has been established in the authentic hadeeth, from the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) who said: ‘‘Indeed Allaah – the Most High -is good and accepts only that which is good. Allaah has ordered the Believers to do that which He commanded the Messengers. Allaah – the Most High -has said:

‘‘O you Messengers! Eat of the good things and do righteous actions.’’ [Sooratul-Mu‘minoon 3:51 ]

And Allaah – the Most High – says:

‘‘O you who Believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you. ’’ [Sooratul-Baqarah 2:172]

Then he mentioned (the case of) a man who, having journeyed far is dishevelled and dusty and who spreads out his bands to the sky (saying): ‘O Lord! O Lord,’ whilst his food is unlawful, his drink unlawful and he is nourished unlawfully. So how can he be answered!’ [2] So the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) explained the un-likelihood that this person’s du’aa would be answered, even after fulfilling the apparent factors which aid the du’aa being answered. The apparent factors being:

[i]: Raising ones’ hands towards the sky, meaning towards Allaah – the Mighty and Majestic – since Allaah is above the heavens, above His ’Arsh (Throne). Extending the hands out towards Allaah -the Mighty and Majestic – is amongst the causes of du’aa being responded to, as is shown in the narration from the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) that he said: ‘‘Indeed your Lord is Alive, Most generous. He feels shy that when his servant raises his bands towards Him, calling upon Him, that He should return him empty, having nothing.’’[3]

[ii]: This man called upon Allaah – the Most High – using the name Rabb (Lord). Seeking tawassul (the means of nearness to Allaah) with this name is also regarded as one of the causes for du’aa to be responded to, since the Rabb is the Creator, the Owner, the Governor of all affairs – and the reigns of the Heavens and the earth are in His Hands. Due to this, you will find that most of the supplications made in the Noble Qur‘aan are by this name:

‘‘Our Lord! We have heard the call of one calling us to faith: ‘Believe you in the Lord,’ and we have believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, and remit from us our evil deeds, and take to Yourself our souls in the company of the righteous. Our Lord! Grant us what You did promise unto us through Your Messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of judgement, for You never break Your promise. And their Lord has accepted of them, and answered them: Never will I suffer to be lost the work of any of you, whether male or female.’’ [Soorah Aal-‘lmraan 3:193-195]

So tawassul (seeking the means of nearness to Allaah) by this name is one of the causes for the du’aa to be responded to.

[iii]: This man was a traveller, and journeying is often a cause for du’aa to be responded to, because a person feels more in need of Allaah – the Mighty and Majestic – when travelling, than when a person is resident with his family. He was dusty and dishevelled, seeming very insignificant in himself, as if the most important thing to him was to implore Allaah and to call upon Him – in any condition he may be – whether dusty and dishevelled, or in ease and oppulance. Being dusty and dishevelled is also instrumental, like in the hadeeth attributed to the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) in which he said: Indeed Allaah boasts to the people of the Heaven about the people standing at ’Arafah, saying: ‘‘Look at My servants who have come to Me dusty and dishevelled.’’ [4] However, these factors did not bring about anything, because his food, his nourishment and his clothing were all haraam (unlawful). So the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) remarked: ‘‘So how can he be answered!’’

Therefore, if these conditions are not satisfied, then the question concerning the du’aa (supplication) being answered will seem distant. However, if the conditions are satisfied and the one supplicating is still not answered, then this is due to a wisdom which Allaah – the Mighty and Majestic – knows, and the one supplicating does not know what this wisdom is; and maybe that you like a thing and it is bad for you.

So when these conditions are fulfilled and the one supplicating is not answered, then either he has been protected from an evil which is greater than what he has asked for, or Allaah stores it for him until the Day of Resurrection, and he then gets a greater reward. This is so, because the one who makes du’aa – calling upon Allaah alone, fulfilling the conditions and not being answered, but rather being saved from a greater evil – is in the position of having carried out the causes yet has been prevented from being answered, and therefore has a two-fold reward. One reward for making du’aa (supplication), and another reward for bearing the trial of not being answered. So that which is greater and more complete is stored for him with Allaah – the Mighty and Majestic.

Also of importance is that the one supplicating should not express dissatisfaction if his du’aa is apparently not being answered, for this action in itself is a reason for the du’aa not being answered – as the Prophet (sallallaahu ’alayhi wa sallam) said: ‘‘A servants du’aa continues to be answered as long as be does not ask for anything sinful or breaking the ties of relations, and as long as be does not become impatient.’’ It was said: How does one become impatient O Messenger of Allaah? He said: ‘‘He says: I have supplicated, I have supplicated, yet it has not been answered.’’ [5] He therefore becomes dispondant and abandons supplicating. So it is not befitting that the one supplicating should become impatient about being answered, then become disappointed and dispondant, and thereby abandon making du’aa. Rather, one should call upon Allaah, since every du’aa you make to Allaah is an act of worship, which brings you closer to Him and increases your reward.

So my brother, you should take to making du’aa (supplication) in all affairs, be it general or specific, in difficulty or in ease. And if it was that supplication was only a means of worshipping Allaah – the One free from all imperfections, the Most High – then that would be sufficient. So it is more befitting that a person strives in this – and with Allaah lies the success and the ability.’’
